The Best Emotional Support Dog EVER

Let’s face it; everyone can use an emotional support dog for one level of need or another! We believe that the BEST breed for this is a GOLDENDOODLE! Although, we know that at Downeast Designer Doodles we have become slightly (just a little) biased when it comes to this topic, after all we have been breeding this amazing designer dog (and designer it is!) since 2008.

The Goldendoodle

The whole purpose of this crossbreed becoming created in the first place, was to meet the need for an ideal therapy and service canine. The Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle (usually a standard or miniature). They are intelligent, friendly, and affectionate. Both of the breeds used to create this dog are smart and learn quickly. The original purpose of the cross was to develop guide dogs suitable for visually impaired individuals with allergies. Poodles are considered to be hypoallergenic. Their coats do not shed, which reduces dander; which is what causes allergies in humans. This is why we have coined this dog the best for emotional support, therapy and service dog purposes in our opinion.

Who can benefit

Everyone. Anyone can relate to depression or anxiety on one level or another. But for some, this is a real battle in day to day life. Or maybe you’ve been feeling unlike yourself for a while and are wondering what might help? Or even have experienced some trauma and/or great grief. It is truly amazing what a furry friend can do to help in any part and all parts of emotional growth and simply thrive more day to day. As pet owners, we sometimes underestimate how dogs can help us when we’re feeling down or out of our minds. Just a paw, a bark, or some furry lovin’s will make us feel so much better!

Unconditional Love

Dogs give us unconditional love, no matter what! As some with anxiety, it doesn’t matter what we have going on, a dog will never judge us, but just love us. Even if we’re having a bad day; they’re right there by our side to pull us out of it. Whenever we feel alone or sad, we have a dog to promote constant and continued connection. This is partially because dogs have a “pack” mentality, and often adopt you into their pack. They bond quick and hard! Research has actually shown that touch works positively on our minds, lowering blood pressure and helping our immune systems. Petting a dog can actually lower blood pressure and heart rate while boosting serotonin and dopamine. How amazing is that!?!

What Studies Have Found

Science is on your side when it comes to getting an emotional support dog! Of course we know that dogs lift our mood and change our attitude when we’re feeling low, but even health problems like these are helped:
People with dogs have lower blood pressure
Depression is less likely in dog owners
Those with Hypertension have significantly reduced blood pressure
Increases levels of serotonin and dopamine
Lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
Heart attack patients with dogs tend to survive longer
Owners over age 65 make 30% fewer visits if they have dog.

Whether you are in need of a dog for emotional, therapeutic or service support. Or simply a companion for day to day life; we strongly recommend a Goldendoodle as a breed to strongly consider.

The Downeast Designer Doodle Difference

We are a “in-home” breeder that from the birth of our precious puppies we begin a socialization process called Puppy Culture and training learned from The Perfect Puppy and The Perfect Dog programs. We don’t just do this on our own but use these experts to help us in these process’ of producing high quality and healthy puppy and dogs. We have seen the benefits from our mama dogs being beloved pets and fellow family members in our homes, thus producing the most nurturing and most attentive mothers. Which is why we started our “Dood Guardian Program” in 2016. As a in-breeder home, we can only realistically take care of so many dogs in our home (lets be honest here!). So out of each litter we give a puppy to a qualified family in exchange for breeding the female dog over the next 5 years of their life. It has been so amazing to see this program thrive like it has, and to see the health of the mama dog throughout her pregnancy and passing it on to the healthiest of puppies. Please contact us for further information about our programs and puppies.
